The portal

The hospital's own web portal: staff, roles, prices, catalogues, machines and reports, from anywhere.

2 min read

The portal is the hospital's side of the cloud, in a browser. It is where the setup lives — everything the devices receive rather than create. See What the cloud decides.

What you do there

Staff and roles. Add somebody, give them a role, set their council number, suspend them when they leave. This is the only place staff are created: devices cannot invent them.

Prices and tariff schedules. The service catalogue and what each costs on each schedule — self-paying, and each HMO or NHIA scheme.

Catalogues. ICD-10, drugs, HMO schemes, document templates.

Machines. Approve a new one, see what each is for, change it, retire one that has gone. See Machines.

Reports. The same reports as on a device, the same definitions, the same answers — from home, on a phone, without going in.

Data. Loading your old registers. See Loading your old registers.

What you cannot do there

Change a clinical record, a stock movement or a financial entry. The portal receives those from the hospital and stores them. It cannot alter them, and neither can we. If the cloud and a device ever disagree about something a device witnessed, the device is right, because the device was there.

Prices change forward, never back

Changing a price changes what is charged from now on. Charges already raised keep the price that was copied onto them when they were raised. This is why an old receipt still adds up — see How charges work.

Getting changes onto the machines

A change made in the portal reaches a machine the next time it syncs. A machine that is offline keeps working on what it already had, which is the right behaviour: a new price list is not worth stopping a clinic for.
