Roles and what each one can do

The roles Fikacare sets up, and what each is for. Remember that a role is only one of the three things that decide what somebody can do.

These are the roles created for a new hospital. They are drawn so that nobody holds a permission they would not use.

Role For Broadly can
Tenant Owner The hospital's owner Everything
Facility Manager Whoever runs the facility day to day Reception, patients, reports, staff, machines, HMO; sees financial figures; authorises discounts and voids; closes another cashier's session
Medical Officer Doctors The consultation in full, the queue, patient summaries, lab and radiology worklists, prescriptions, clinical reports; admits and discharges
Nurse Nursing staff Queue and triage, vitals, allergies, medications, patient summaries, specimen collection, acknowledging critical results, ward nursing and drug charts
Midwife Midwifery Everything a nurse can, plus admitting, maternal records and writing notes
Lab Scientist Laboratory The laboratory in full, clinical reports
Radiographer Imaging Radiology in full
Pharmacist Pharmacy Pharmacy in full, patient summaries, operational reports
Pharmacy Technician Pharmacy support Prescriptions, dispensing, receiving stock, performing counts — not approving them
Receptionist/Records The front desk Registration, editing patients, printing cards, the queue, visits, appointments, raising charges, verifying HMO enrollees
Cashier The till Raising charges, issuing receipts, voiding their own, opening a session, deposits, applying discounts
Accounts The finance office The ledger in full, authorising discounts and voids, closing another cashier's session, reconciling claims, financial reports, the portal
Auditor Oversight Reads everything financial and every report, and the audit log — records nothing
Store Keeper The store Viewing, receiving and adjusting stock, performing counts
HMO Desk Officer The HMO desk HMO and NHIA in full, viewing charges and statements, operational reports

Two things to remember

A role is not the whole story. What somebody can actually do is their role and what the machine is for and what the hospital's plan includes. A pharmacist at the reception desk cannot dispense. See Who can see what.

Separation is deliberate. A cashier can void their own receipt but not authorise the void; that is the Facility Manager or Accounts. A pharmacy technician can count stock but not approve the count. These are not oversights — they are the controls, and widening a role to "make things easier" removes them.
