Printing

What Fikacare prints, how printers are chosen per machine, and what to do when nothing comes out.

What prints

Receipts — on a small receipt printer, or A5 on an ordinary one. Patient cards — with the hospital number. Queue tickets — the number called in the waiting room. Letters — referral letters, discharge summaries, prescriptions, on your hospital's letterhead, signed with the clinician's name and council number from their staff record. Reports and statements — anything on screen.

Choosing printers

The Printers section, with a receipt, document and label printer
Three kinds of printer, set per machine. A hospital rarely needs all three at one desk.

Each machine has its own printers, set in System / Devices → Printers. A machine can have a different one for receipts than for letters, which is the normal arrangement: a small receipt printer at the till and an A4 printer for everything else.

Printers belong to the machine, not to you. Signing in somewhere else does not bring your printer settings.

When nothing comes out

1. Was it recorded? This is the important question and the answer is almost always yes. Printing is the last step and a failure to print does not undo the receipt, the note or the ticket. Check the patient's Payments tab — if the receipt is there, it exists, and you can print it again.

2. Is the right printer chosen? System / Devices → Printers. A machine that was moved, or a printer that was replaced, usually needs this set again.

3. Is it on, online and loaded? Receipt printers are particularly fond of going offline silently after a power cut.

4. Print preview. If the preview shows the document correctly, Fikacare has done its part and the problem is between Windows and the printer.

Reprinting

Anything printed can be printed again from where it was created — a receipt from the patient's Payments tab, a letter from the consultation, a ticket from the queue.

A reprinted receipt is the same receipt with the same number. It is not a new one, and reprinting does not affect your till or the day's figures.
