Installing and updating the app
Downloading Fikacare for Windows, installing it on each computer, and how new versions arrive and install.

Downloading it
The installer is on the website at fikacare.com/download. The same file installs every computer in the hospital: reception, the consulting rooms, the pharmacy, the laboratory, the cashier and the office.
It needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), 4 GB of memory and 2 GB of free disk space.
Installing it
Run the file you downloaded. It installs for the person signed in to Windows and does not ask for an administrator.
While the installer is not yet code-signed, Windows may say "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info, then Run anyway. Windows says this about any program it has not seen on many computers before. The download page lists the file's SHA-256, so you can check that the file is the one we published.
Open Fikacare, enter the pairing code from the portal, and wait for your administrator to approve the computer (see Machines).
How updates arrive
You do not need to download a new version yourself.
- Each computer checks for a new version a minute after it starts and every fifteen minutes after that.
- A computer that hears the hub asks the hub first. The hub downloads each version once and shares it with the other computers on the hospital's network.
- The new version downloads in the background. While it does, the top of the screen shows Downloading 0.2.0 and how far it has got. When it is ready, it shows Update to 0.2.0.
Installing an update
Click Update to … at the top of the screen, or choose Software update from your name at the top right. The window says what changed.
Click Update now when you are between patients. Fikacare closes, the installer runs for under a minute, and Fikacare opens again on the new version. Everything saved stays on the computer, and anything not yet synced syncs as usual afterwards. Any member of staff can do this.
Check for updates in the same window asks straight away instead of waiting for the next check.
Every update is signed by Fikacare, and the app checks the signature and the file before it runs anything. An update that fails the check is not installed, and the window says so.
When an update is required
Now and then a version stops being supported, usually because the cloud has changed in a way it cannot understand. The notice then turns red and reads Update required. Update as soon as the person you are serving is done. A computer that nobody is signed in to updates itself.
